HelpAge International has released a conprehensive study reviewing humanitarian financing for older people in 12 humanitarian crisis since 2007, to ascertain levels of funding, which targets older people within the CAP and Flash Appeals. The report highlights the significant gap that still remains in responding to the needs of this vulnerable group.
Samples of the issues raised:
In five of the crises studied (Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, El Salvador, OPT 2007 and 2008 and Honduras), not one project in any sector explicitly referred to or provided targeted assistance to older people.
Only 0.2% or 5, out of 1,912 projects including activities targeting older people were actually funded.
In Georgia, where older people comprise 19% of the population, only 4 out of 112 projects in the Flash Appeal mentioned older people but none of these any activities targeting them.
